It is a measure of how far we have come as a society in the last ten years that we are now appalled by hatred and invective directed at people on the basis of their sexuality. It is time for the law to recognise this.

It’s Ramadan again. Last year promoters of a film called “In the Name of Allah” invited people to a cocktail iftar at a San Fran club to raise funds. I only hope they didn’t use hadiths about the Prophet (peace be upon him) being more generous in Ramadan to further their filthy agenda.
Now the film has been released, under a different title: “A Jihad for Love”.
SubhanAllah, I don’t know which title is more crass!
I pointed out previously how the pre-release publicity was keen to promote the notion of a Queer Muslim Reformation [my wording], and the stupidity has only been amplified in the latest publicity available on the official website and the director’s blog:

Disagreement over punishment August 14, 2007

I just came across this video from MEMRI of a scholar I haven’t previously heard of (Sheikh ‘Abd Al-Qader Shiba Al-Hamad), discussing the historical disagreement between the companions of the Prophet (peace be on him) after he passed away, over how to punish someone guilty of sodomy.
The video features a more detailed explanation than the one given by Sheikh Qaradawi, or Sheikh Alwani, as quoted previously on this blog.
But what comes next? What is this Sheikh’s opinion exactly? The video ends rather abruptly, leaving you wondering how he continued. I hardly expect him to be the most liberal scholar on the planet, but it’s only fair to know how he regards the views he has just listed.
Remember that MEMRI chopped up Qaradawi’s statements to hide the fact that he advocates choosing the least severe option. The result was various Islam-haters pouncing on another ‘Crazed Cleric Calls to Kill Queers’ story.

This is one of the common refrains and undertones in the not-quite-dialogue between the Queer Muslims and the wider Muslim community to whom they are too terrified to justify their deviant opinions and actions.
Whether it’s the confused individuals trying to find their way through difficult feelings and questions (for whom we have patience and sympathy) – or those few contemptible people who try to mislead others with emotional rhetoric and pseudo-theological sophistry – the claim that “Allah made me this way” is something that needs a bit of analysis.

We sometimes get some comments that do not actually get approved.
One sister recently went off on a rant about how “homosexuals will burn in hell” and how our website is full of “hypocrisy”. This, of course, is nonsense and her comment was not approved. We also have the case of a certain someone who doesn’t realize that his IP address is linked to his comments and we can tell that it’s him that is posting. This man keeps on posting confused comments which are anti-Islam, and sometimes quasi-Christian in nature, though he claims to not believe in anything.
Another important point we wish to make here is that this website will NOT be used as a forum to present prejudiced and unsubstantiated opinions about Islamic scholars. If you have a problem with a particular mainstream scholar, please take it up with him/her or create your own blog. We will not allow you to present your hatred for them here. (This is going out to the brother who went off against Sh. Suhaib Webb.)

It’s always astounded me how willing some in the gay activist community are to celebrate someone surgically altering their body to “become” who they perceive to be internally. Yet when I determine I want to reorient my sexual orientation, which does not require drastic surgery or body altering drugs, according to those same activists, I am the one doing damage to myself and others by simply holding to a particular worldview that brings me contentment and sexual reorientation. The transgendered are applauded for radically altering their bodies while I am scolded for holding the belief that I would be happier living out who I truly am regardless of my past life as a gay identified man. It’s ok for someone to ignore what they were obviously born as but for people like me … we are told being “gay” is genetic and should be embraced because we have no other option.

People who use the “ex-gay” description for themselves (we don’t!) can also appeal to their rights. The post above reminds me of something I wrote questioning the links made between L, G, B and T. Do read it and respond!
