It is not a sin to be gay in Islam. It is not a sin to desire to drink water while fasting in Ramadan. But, planing a sin whether breaking a fast when its harm to do so or planing to have sexual relations is a sin. Khalid do not worry about being gay. Just do not plan on doing any sexual behavior with guys and you will be fine.

It would be a good idea to see the second part of this article, where I did discuss those points:

If you have follow-up questions, please ask them there.

i'm interested in finding out what you think about there not being a word in the Quran which means 'gay' or 'homosexual'.

your article is rather confusing - are you suggesting that people ought to overcome temptation if they are attracted to the same sex?

My short answer to that is that my reference was to our British culture and history, not to any other context.

"It could also be a sign that children in our society are somehow having their childhood innocence taken from them, with sexual awareness being the norm for modern children far earlier and more widely than it would have been, not long ago."

Far earlier? I thought that not long ago some people out there sure expected their daughters to have far more sexual awareness that early because they were marrying off these girls at age 9.

You make many good points, but in the end one either believes that 'religion', whatever that is, is sufficient grounds to inform our ethics and behaviour or not. If it is, one can hardly argue that it is reasonable to be a 'practising gay' muslim. I know that you are not making that case, but the people in the documentary were, and I think it not unreasonable to assume that there are many more like them ('practising gay' muslims) and not unreasonable to think that they are confused about the nature of mainstream Islam. I think you should check out my favourite blog, Butterflies and Wheels. You may recoil initially from its atheism, but your considered and largely reasonable views could make an informed contribution to many of the discussions, particularly on areas such as free speech.
